Audiologist

Jenny Stygall

Hi, I’m Jenny, one of the audiologists at Resonate Merivale. I love meeting people and getting to know them. My customers and colleagues mean the world to me, and I’ll always go the extra mile to figure out how I can best help. Nothing beats seeing someone’s smile when their hearing improves and life feels better.

I have over 15 years of experience in the hearing health industry, spanning across New Zealand and the UK. My journey began in 2010 as a Newborn Hearing Screener and later as a trainer while living in the UK. During that time, I volunteered with Action on Hearing Loss, supported Special Educational Needs schools, and worked with students using British Sign Language and Makaton.

When I moved to Hawke’s Bay in 2014, I was lucky to be supervised by Dr Matt Barker (founder of Acoustic Pioneer). Over the next seven years, I worked as a clinic manager, supervisor, and mentor, specialising in tinnitus, auditory processing, and bimodal fittings (hearing aids combined with cochlear implants). I also organised New Zealand and Australia’s outreach trips to Samoa, where we fitted donated hearing aids for communities in need.

In 2021, I started my own audiology consulting business specialising in preparing provisional clinicians for their New Zealand Audiological Society clinical exams (OSCE). A year later, I joined Resonate and helped open the Resonate Havelock North studio with my colleague Mardene.

Even though I had just opened my own business, I couldn’t pass up such an amazing opportunity to be part of a team that is actively changing hearing health in New Zealand. Hearing aids are so overpriced, and many Kiwis can't access top-quality hearing devices, which can lead to a poorer quality of life and other serious health issues, like cognitive decline.

At Resonate, we have the time to really know our customers and provide accessible solutions, like our subscription service, that improve not just hearing, but overall health and wellbeing. I also love how we have a holistic approach to health, and work alongside other health professionals to genuinely look after our customers throughout their lives.

When I’m not with customers, I’m part of the Resonate training team, supporting new team members, Navigators enrolled in the TAFE and AUCA audiometry courses, and provisional clinicians preparing for their exams.

Outside of work, I’m enjoying life back in Christchurch after 20 years away. My husband Nick is a primary school teacher, and we have a three-year-old daughter, Emilia. We love exploring the city together and walking our dachshunds, Frank and Pedro, who keep us on our toes!
