Hi! I’m Gemma. I’ve been an audiologist for 17 years now, and I love helping people every day.
My journey into audiology started while I was studying my Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Auckland. Professor Peter Thorne, who led the Audiology program at the time, gave a lecture about how our ears work, and I was instantly hooked! I’m originally from a small town in Northland, and I hadn’t realised there was a career that could combine my love of science, how our bodies work, and getting to work with people and improve their lives. That was a real lightbulb moment for me and inspired me to enrol in the Master of Audiology programme.
After plenty of time travelling and living overseas, I returned to New Zealand and have settled down in windy Wellington.
I joined Resonate in early 2023, and it has been a life-changing turning point in my career. I had reached a point where I felt more like a salesperson than a healthcare professional, and I had started to consider what I should do with the rest of my life.
Resonate has reignited my love for hearing healthcare and reminded me why I became an audiologist in the first place.
Today, I spend my time supporting new team members with onboarding, training, and ongoing development across Resonate. I feel so lucky to work with an incredible team and to play a part in making meaningful improvements to people’s lives every day.
Living in Wellington, it may not come as a surprise to hear that when I’m not at work, my husband and I run a small brewery and bar, though I’d much rather be out in the hills walking with my doggo Yoko Boneo!
