Kia Ora, my name is Ellen, and I have been an audiologist in New Zealand for over ten years, with eight years dedicated to the Manawatu community.
I’ve been an audiologist in New Zealand for over ten years, with eight years dedicated to the Manawatu community. I’m passionate about making hearing healthcare education accessible and raising awareness about the importance of hearing health, particularly the link between hearing loss and cognitive decline.
My journey into audiology began when I was thirteen and my father experienced a severe stroke. From that moment, I knew I wanted to work in health care, and for many years, I trained with the goal of becoming a dentist. At university, I realised that path wasn’t for me, followed my love for neuroscience and switched to a biomedical degree.
In my final year of my bachelor's degree, I shadowed a GP, optometrist, and audiologist for the day and loved my experience with audiology. I've never looked back! I absolutely love coming to work, seeing my customers light up when they hear the sounds they’ve been missing and helping them reconnect with their families and loved ones.
I joined Resonate because I believe hearing healthcare should be accessible to everyone. I love that we can make high-quality hearing solutions more affordable and consider how a person's hearing impacts other areas of their wellbeing, such as sleep, balance and especially their memory, as I have a huge passion for the neuroscience of audiology.
When I'm not at work, my life is hectic as I have two daughters under the age of five and spend most of my free time running after them! I have always loved basketball and used to play for the Northland women's team. I also play piano and we love to travel when we have the chance.
