If your ears feel blocked or your hearing sounds muffled, you may have excess ear wax.
It's important not to try to remove the wax at home with cotton buds, as they can damage your delicate ear canal or push the wax further into your ear.
Instead, book a ClearEars appointment. We'll start by checking your ear health and use the Tympa Health microsuction system to gently remove excess wax.
Microsuction is a safe, effective and more comfortable method for removing ear wax. Unlike ear syringing, microsuction is a dry procedure which reduces the risk of damage or infection.
The appointment costs $79 and usually takes around 30 minutes.
Before your appointment
We'll ask you a few questions about your ear health and medical history, including whether you've previously had a damaged or perforated eardrum.
We'll also explain the benefits and possible risks of microsuction.
Step-by-step: What happens during your appointment?
Step 1: We'll check inside your ears
We'll use an otoscope to look inside your ear canals, check your ear health and see whether wax has built up.
Step 2: We'll explain the procedure
We'll explain what to expect, answer any questions and make sure you're happy to go ahead.
Step 3: We'll remove the wax
We'll use the Tympa Health microsuction system to gently and safely remove excess wax from your ears.
You might notice some unusual sensations during microsuction, including a tickle that makes you want to cough or brief dizziness. If you need to take a break at any time, please let us know so we can stop.
Step 4: We'll check your ears again
After the wax has been removed, we'll look inside your ears to check the results, ask how your ears feel and whether you've noticed any changes in your hearing.
If you'd like, we can show you before-and-after pictures of your ear canals and wax too.
